PRL is committed to ensuring Christmas Island marine environment is maintained. Our potential interaction with the marine environment is small and relates to Flying Fish Cove in the north-eastern corner of the island where we load phosphate ships.
The loading process is regulated through environmental licences with strategies to minimise dust emissions, and avoiding spillage of phosphate material. Managing storm water run-off is also an important strategy in this high rainfall tropical environment. Continuous monitoring of air quality is a condition of PRL’s licence.
